Winemaker’s Comments
This variety thrives in the Waipara climate and conditions, the cool climate allows the spicy fruit flavours to develop to
perfection.
The grapes came from two Waipara Vineyards, Maggie and Kym Rayner’s Home Block and The McKenzie Weka
Terraces Vineyard.
The last release of this wine was 2014.
Gewurztraminer tends to be naturally low in acidity so balance is achieved by ripe sweet fruit characters
complimenting the phenolics, glycerol and alcohol. The resultant wine shows rose petal, toffee apple and lychee on
the aroma. The palate has rich spicy fruit, made in a medium dry style with noticeable sweetness and finishes full, soft
and mouth filling. This wine can be enjoyed young, while fresh and fruity, but will reward cellaring, developing a rich
complex Turkish Delight bouquet, yet still have finesse on the palate. This wine has used the screw top closure to
preserve fresh fruit flavours or allow the wine to age gracefully and reach its full potential with no bottle variation.
This wine is great drinking while young [2-3 years old] but will be outstanding with extra time in bottle [5-7 years] and
was very limited in production.
